Local Music

Hear interviews with guests on music programs produced here at WMUK, as well as program news.

Mira Shifrin

Flutist Mira Shifrin, an alumna of Western Michigan University and instructor at the Crescendo Academy, performs music by Bach and Piazzolla in WMUK's Yoshimi Takeda Performance Studio, and speaks with Cara Lieurance about her life as a musician.

Drew Le

Pianist Drew Le has just released a CD recording of Schubert, Debussy, and Chopin on Blue Griffin Records.

He speaks to Cara Lieurance about the process of recording in the studio, and about his other activities as a professor of music at Hope College in Holland, MI, and as co-director of the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck with his musician wife, Jennifer Walvoord.  He's also an accomplished photographer.

The CD is currently available through his website, and on Amazon later this fall.

Fontana Chamber Arts

David Baldwin will draw on his experience in artist management at the highest level in New York and London and leadership of the Shriver Hall Concert Series in Baltimore to build on the history of Kalamazoo's premiere chamber music organization, Fontana Chamber Arts

He talks about his early training as a musician and how he parlayed it into concert management, helped in part by none other than Yo-Yo Ma. He also takes a practical attitude toward the realities of arts funding and planning for the future.

Gerry Szymanski

We're proud to welcome award-winning jazz pianist Jeremy Siskind as our first Let's Hear It guest to perform at WMUK in the Yoshimi Takeda Performance Studio.

On Let's Hear It, it's my intention to create a place to stop by nearly every weeknight at 8 pm to hear your musician friends play their music.
