Lansing - In the first statewide poll since former U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer last week entered the 2014 race for governor, the Battle Creek Democrat barely leads Republican Gov. Rick Snyder. Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C., found Schauer ahead of Snyder 42 percent to 38 percent in a telephone poll of 697 registered voters.

LANSING, MI -- Michigan Republican Gov. Rick Snyder is running dead even with potential Democratic challenger Mark Schauer, according to the results of a new statewide poll. The EPIC-MRA poll, conducted May 11-15, asked 600 likely voters who they would pick in a 2014 matchup pitting the governor against the former Congressman.

Nothing official yet, but Schauer moving closer to campaign for governor

Mark Schauer, 51, is in the final stages of preparing for a race for governor. He won't say definitively yet that he's in, but in an interview with the Free Press Tuesday, he said: 'I'm strongly leaning toward putting a campaign together and getting going. The desire is there.'
