EPIC-MRA poll shows governor with eight-point lead over former Congressman Mark Schauer of Battle Creek
Gov. Rick Snyder has an eight-point lead on the likely Democratic candidate in the 2014 governor's race, while the top candidates in the U.S. Senate race are in a statistical tie, according to a poll released exclusively Wednesday to the Free Press and WXYZ-TV (Channel 7).

Former congressman and state lawmaker Mark Schauer says he decided to launch his campaign for governor because Republican Rick Snyder has not been the moderate governor that Michigan voters had hoped for. Schauer was interviewed Monday for the WMUK program WestSouthwest. The Battle Creek Democrat says on a number of issues, including taxing pension income and “right to work”, Snyder has catered to the right wing of the Republican Party.

The Rothenberg Political Report had rated the Michigan governor's race "tossup/tilt Republican"
Former Rep. Mark Schauer announced his gubernatorial campaign in late May, rejuvenating Democratic hopes of defeating GOP Gov. Rick Snyder in Michigan next year. Schauer defeated GOP Rep. Tim Walberg, 49 percent to 46 percent, in 2008. He then lost to Walberg, 50 percent to 45 percent in a 2010 rematch.
