Appeals Court Upholds Moving Michigan Court of Claims

Court of Appeals concluded that move did not violate Michigan Constitution
LANSING -- A 2013 law moving the Michigan Court of Claims out of Ingham Circuit Court and making it a part of the Michigan Court of Appeals is not unconstitutional but is "fairly subject to criticism," an appeals panel ruled Tuesday.

Four judges appointed to new Michigan Court of Claims

Western district, based in Grand Rapids, is only one not represented on new court
LANSING, MI -- The Michigan Supreme Court on Wednesday named four Court of Appeals judges who will be randomly assigned to hear suits against the state under a controversial new law signed this week by Gov. Rick Snyder. The new Court of Claims will be overseen by Court of Appeals Judges Pat Donofrio, Amy Krause, Deborah Servitto and Michael Talbot.

Senate Republicans move to send lawsuits against state out of Ingham County

Ingham County Circuit Court has had jurisdiction over major lawsuits against state since 1970's
LANSING, MI -- Michigan's Republican-led Senate on Wednesday approved a significant shakeup to the state's legal system that Democrats decried as a partisan ploy to protect problematic laws. Senate Bill 652, fast-tracked after introduction last week and approved in a party-line vote, would move major litigation against the state government out of the Ingham County Circuit Court, which has had jurisdiction over such cases since the 1970s.
