KALAMAZOO, MI -- Officials in Kalamazoo Public Schools already were upset by a state proposal to increase their funding by $83 per student, an amount they decried as wholly inadequate. But they're even more furious about the final School Aid Budget, which gives them an increase of $50 per student.

Lansing The Michigan Legislature on Wednesday sent Gov. Rick Snyder a $15.7 billion spending bill for public education that includes across-the-board increases in state funding for K-12 schools, community colleges and universities.

Legislature Could Keep MEAP Test Alive in Michigan Schools

State Superintendent Mike Flanagan has said MEAP is not an option for the future
LANSING -- The venerable MEAP exam is set to retire, but the Michigan Legislature took steps Thursday to give it another two years. Identical language in both the House and Senate versions of the state's school aid budget would make schools ineligible for state funding if they do not give the MEAP exam for the next two years.
