Michigan unemployment rate rises for third straight month

Jobless rate hits 9% but payroll jobs grew by 8,000 in August
LANSING - Michigan's unemployment rate rose for the third consecutive month to 9 percent in August, the highest recorded in 2013. The rate rose from 8.8 percent in July. Still, the August unemployment rate was down from 9.3 percent in the same month last year, according to data released Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.

Michigan unemployment rate down slightly in April

LANSING, MI - Michigan's unemployment rate edged down to 8.4 percent in April from 8.5 percent in March. The national unemployment rate also ticked down, from 7.6 percent in March to of 7.5 percent in April. The slight decrease continues a trend of declining or stagnant monthly jobless rates for the last several months in Michigan.

Michigan's jobless rate at lowest point since 2008

Michigan jobless rate was 9% in March of last year. The national jobless rate was 7.6% last month
Michigan's unemployment rate took a healthy drop in March to 8.5%, down three-tenths of a percentage point as the state's labor force expanded slightly. More new workers were recorded than unemployed people, meaning the drop was due to actual gains in employment, not simply discouraged workers leaving the workforce, according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
