Julian Bond tells audience at Albion College that racism is "alive and well"

The long-time civil rights activist and friend of Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at the college's MLK Convocation on Thursday
ALBION - A standing ovation greeted Julian Bond before he said a word Thursday night at Albion College. A renowned civil rights activist, Bond was the guest speaker of the 16th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation and Community Celebration. Albion College's Goodrich Chapel was full of students, city officials and members of the community.

Several government offices closed for MLK holiday

Many events in Kalamazoo honor ;late civil rights leader

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Even though many offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, there are events happening around Kalamazoo to celebrate the holiday that are free and open to the public. All Michigan Secretary of State offices will be closed Monday.

Retired school teacher Harold Bragg was at the historic March on Washington in 1963. He was back in the nation's capital this past summer to mark the 50th anniversary of that march and Martin Luther King Junior's "I have a dream" speech.
