Grassroots Movement Launched to Increase Healthy Behavior in Allegan County

If it takes a village to raise a child, it likely takes a county to raise a healthy child.That's the idea behind Allegan County's Bringing Healthy Back initiative.The county-wide grassroots movement, which has been in development for the past few years, has been actively working to address the issue of childhood obesity and encourage healthier lifestyles among Allegan County residents.

Michigan ranks 34th in national health

Michigan is not the healthiest state by far, according to United Health Foundation’s 2013 Health Rankings.
Michigan placed 34th in the nation on health rankings released Wednesday, in part due to high rates of obesity in the state. United Health Foundations 2013 Americas Health Rankings found that Americans generally improved in a majority of behavioral measures from smoking to physical activity that contribute to health.
