Palisades nuclear safety forum Tuesday

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting April 2 to talk about the safety performance of Palisades nuclear power plant in 2012. Representatives of Entergy Nuclear Operations, which operates the plant in Covert Township, also will attend. The meeting, which will be open to the public, is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

KALAMAZOO, MI - Entergy Corp., which owns Palisades nuclear power plant, said that the facility is "safe and secure," a day ahead of a webinar by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. "The Palisades nuclear plant is a safe and secure facility, and we have an NRC license to operate this facility through 2031," said Tony Vitale, site vice president for Palisades, in a statement.

COVERT, MI - Palisades nuclear plant operators returned the plant to service Friday morning, Feb. 22, synchronizing to the Michigan electric grid at 12:44 a.m., a spokesman for the company announced. The action ends a six-day outage that started on at 4:49 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.
