Kalamazoo native Janet Ruth Heller is a writer, playwright, and literary critic. In her third book of poetry called Exodus, Heller fills in the gaps in the lives of characters in the Bible, especially women. Exodus can be found at Kazoo Books on Parkview Ave. in Kalamazoo, Michigan News Agency, and Amazon.com.

Poet Mariela Griffor grew up in Chile where she became a political activist against the military dictatorship led by General Augusto Pinochet in the 1970s and 80s. Now Griffor lives with her family near Detroit where she serves as the Michigan Consul to Chile.

The YWCA is holding a poetry night tomorrow to commemorate Love Your Body Day as well as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The National Organization for Women started Love Your Body Day in 1988 to draw attention to ads and other media that negatively affect how women see their bodies.

Poet and psychologist Gail Martin will hold a reading Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Portage District Library for her new book Begin Empty-Handed, which won this year’s Perugia Press Prize. Perugia Press publishes poetry by up-and-coming female poets every year.

Poet Jaswinder Bolina will be reading at WMU's Bernhard Center on Thursday night at 8 p.m. as part of the Gwen Frostic Reading Series. He’ll read from his second book titled Phantom Camera.
