Voters in the Portage School District face two bond proposals on Tuesday, November 3. One focuses on the district’s three middle schools. The other raises an issue that’s been controversial in the past: new stadiums at its two high schools.

The Michigan Supreme Court says it won’t take up an appeal by a former Portage school superintendent who says he deserves compensation after getting forced out of his post. Ric Perry, the former superintendent of Portage Public Schools, sued the Portage school board in 2013. The board forced him out after it discovered his affair with another district staff member. Perry sought nearly $300,000 in compensation because he said the affair did not violate his contract.
"PORTAGE, MI -- Portage Public Schools Superintendent Mark Bielang says the district can't seek reimbursement from his predecessor Ric Perry for legal costs accrued in the protracted fight over Perry's termination.
