PORTAGE, MI -- A three-day arbitration hearing begins Tuesday, May 21, to decide whether the Portage Public Schools Board of Education violated the contract of former Superintendent Ric Perry by forcing him to resign. The hearing, which is scheduled to run through Thursday, May 23, will be closed to the public, acting Superintendent Rob Olsen said.

Portage schools face more choices in superintendent search

The only finalist for the job, Brighton Superintendent Greg Gray, says he's staying put after visiting Portage for a public interview last week.
Now that their lone finalist for superintendent has withdrawn his candidacy, Portage Public Schools Board of Education needs to decide whether to return to their original pool of applicants, start a new search or continue for now with an interim superintendent, Trustee Joanne Willson said this morning.

PORTAGE, MI -- The Portage Public Schools Board of Education spent more than two hours in closed session Tuesday evening reviewing applications from 23 people seeking to be the district's next superintendent. "We asked a lot of questions about the candidates and asked our consultant to do some homework to see which candidates best fit our profile," President Bo Snyder said after the meeting.
