Snyder moves forward on "right to work"

The head of the Michigan Nurses Association says, "The People will outlast the law", as union leaders vow to continue fighting "right to work".
Gov. Rick Snyder called for "a chance to move forward" Thursday as union officials held a series of protests in Metro Detroit and Lansing as the traditional labor stronghold became the nation's 24th right-to-work state. Republicans and conservative supporters said giving employees the legal right not to pay dues to unions for collectively bargained wages and benefits would strengthen unions and benefit workers.

Snyder signs emergency dredging bill

The state is expected to dredge 58 public harbors and bays in Michigan to offset low water levels on the Great Lakes.
LANSING -- Gov. Rick Snyder today signed a bill that will pour $21 million of state dollars into an emergency dredging program that will clear 58 public harbors and bays in the state. "This dredging is critically important in this state. We have the third highest number of registered boats in the nation," Snyder said.

Road budget doesn't increase, to Snyder's dismay

A Michigan House committee passed the state transportation budget without the extra $1.2 billion Governor Rick Snyder has been pushing for to make road repairs and improvements.
Lansing - A House committee on Tuesday passed a $3.4 billion transportation budget that is $1.2 billion less than Gov. Rick Snyder wanted to fix the state's roadways. The House Appropriations transportation subcommittee's bill does not include the $1.2 billion in new revenue Snyder is seeking because the Legislature has so far been unable to agree on whose tax bills should increase to pay for road repairs.

Emergency Financial Manager officially appointed for Detroit

Lansing - Michigan's emergency loan board approved Kevyn Orr as Detroit's emergency manager after a 15-minute videoconference question-and-answer session with the Washington D.C. attorney from the board meeting room in the state Treasury building. The three-member board consists of State Treasurer Andy Dillon, Budget Director John Nixon and Steve Arwood, director of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
