Abortion Rights supporters won't push for repeal of abortion rider law

LANSING - Abortion rights supporters won't pursue a petition drive to repeal a law enacted last year requiring women to purchase an additional rider to their insurance if they want coverage for an abortion. "The timing is a bit rough," said Kary Moss, executive director of the ACLU's Michigan chapter.

Michigan Legislature approves requiring additional insurance to cover abortion

Law will go into effect 90 days after the Legislature adjourns
The initiative passed by the Michigan Legislature would require most private and all public health insurance plans to offer a separate rider for an abortion. And a person would have to buy that rider before knowing if they needed an abortion.
