LANSING - Abortion rights supporters won't pursue a petition drive to repeal a law enacted last year requiring women to purchase an additional rider to their insurance if they want coverage for an abortion. Michigan Legislature approves requiring additional insurance to cover abortion

Lead in text: 
Law will go into effect 90 days after the Legislature adjourns
The initiative passed by the Michigan Legislature would require most private and all public health insurance plans to offer a separate rider for an abortion. And a person would have to buy that rider before knowing if they needed an abortion.

LANSING, MI -- Right to Life of Michigan, which collected more than 315,000 signatures for a citizen-initiated bill to prohibit abortion coverage as a standard feature in insurance policies, expects lawmakers to vote on the proposal and turn it into law by the end of this year.
