Appeals Court Continues Stay, Keeping Same-Sex Marriage Ban in Effect

DETROIT, MI -- The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday granted the state's request to stay a federal judge's ruling that struck down Michigan's gay marriage ban. U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman on Friday called the state's voter-approved ban unconstitutional, and same-sex couples began marrying on Saturday, until the appeals court issued a temporary stay.

Schuette held his announcement for a second four-year term at the Oakland County Republican Party offices at Square Lake Road and Woodward Avenue, just a few miles from the county courthouse where Democrat county Clerk Lisa Brown issued some 142 same-sex marriage licenses Saturday.

Snyder Side-Steps Questions on Gay Marriage at Event in New York
