Governor Rick Snyder said Wednesday that about 300 same-sex couples who exchanged vows late last week are legally married in Michigan. But the Detroit Free Press reports that Snyder also says they won't immediately get the benefits usually associated with marriage.

Federal courts will ultimately decide the fate of the amendment to Michigan's Constitution banning same-sex marriage. 

The state must file its brief by May 7, the plaintiffs must file their response by June 9
