KALAMAZOO, MI -- Western Michigan University will be closed Tuesday due to the severe weather, Cheryl Roland, executive director of university relations said in a phone interview. The start of the semester will be delayed a second day, due to 17 inches of snowfall and wind chill temperatures that a local weather expert are calling the coldest in 20 years.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Students and teachers in Kalamazoo Public Schools will have their winter break extended by a second day. KPS will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7, because of the weather, and employees do not need to report to work, KPS officials announced this morning. The district announced Sunday that Monday classes would be canceled.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Western Michigan University will be closed Monday due to severe weather, according to an announcement on the university's website. Only essential and emergency services personnel are expected at work Monday. All classes are canceled in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and the regional location in Grand Rapids.

Some Southwest Michigan districts nearing limit on cancellations
