Mattawan School Board Moves Forward With Bond Issue for November Ballot

MATTAWAN, MI --The Mattawan Consolidated School Board of Education tentatively decided Monday to put two bond requests on the November ballot totaling $75 million to $80 million. If both requests are approved, it would provide money to replace both elementaries schools; construct additions at the middle and high school to alleviate overcrowding; upgrade technology, and purchase new school buses.

Headlee Override Approved for Special Education Levy in Saint Joseph ISD

CENTREVILLE, MI -- Voters approved a Headlee override on the special-education tax levied by the St. Joseph Intermediate School District. Tuesday's unofficial vote was 1,261 to 1,158, with 52 percent backing the tax increase. The Headlee Amendment rolls back millage rates when property values increase faster than the inflation rate.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- A 1.5-mill tax that supplements the operating budgets of Kalamazoo County school districts was renewed Tuesday by more than two-thirds of voters. Tuesday's unofficial vote tally was 12,590 to 5,782, which did not include a handful of voters in Barry County. About 68.5 percent of voters backed the renewal.
