GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Commuting to work during a Michigan winter could be a little easier and safer with the SnowFi app. Using real-time data from the Michigan Department of Transportation, the app would let users know when roads have been plowed. SnowFi was developed last weekend in a statewide contest to create software that promotes government transparency.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The city of Kalamazoo will have a special brush pickup in to collect fallen trees and limbs from Friday's windstorm, said Bob McClenney, field manager for the Kalamazoo's Department of Public Works. "We're doing it in two weeks so we have time to put a plan together" and so residents have time to stack the brush along the street curb, he said.
