Derby Darlins take 3rd in tournament, host breast cancer fundraiser

A few weeks ago, the Killamazoo Derby Darlins hosted a tournament through the WFTDA—the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. The Darlins invited nine teams from across the country to compete and they ended up placing 3rd in their first national competition.

Family invents sport to help kids stay active

Vintage base ball club takes the sport to a simpler time

On Saturday you will get a chance to see what baseball would have looked like 150 years ago. It’s the last game of the season for the Continental Base Ball Club of Kalamazoo . The game starts at 4 p.m. at Flesher Field in Oshtemo. A vintage base ball team supported by Kalamazoo’s Historical Society.

WMU Midwest Games a touch of home for Malaysian students

Western Michigan University hosted the Malaysian Midwest Games over the Memorial Day weekend. The event featured a broad range of Olympic-style athletic competitions for students from Malaysia studying at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

If you stood in the right spot inside Western’s Student Recreation Center during the games you would have seen Malaysian students competing in table tennis, basketball and netball, all at the same time. They were just three of the sports featured in what participants call simply the “Midwest Games”.
