Binder Park Zoo's Wild Dogs Part of Research Effort to Prevent Extinction

The World Wildlife Fund lists African Wild Dogs as one of the world's most endangered animals
At the same time they were napping in the morning sun Thursday, Binder Park Zoo's African wild dogs were helping protect their species from extinction. Researchers from James Cook University of Queensland, Australia, are working with multiple organizations to observe African wild dogs in zoos, collect biological samples and prepare a breeding program.

Kellogg Foundation Grant Boosts Kalamazoo's Douglass Community Association

Calhoun County Art Council Dissolves

The Calhoun County Arts Council is no more. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that the organization has announced that it is shutting down. The Art Council’s mission will be moved to the Battle Creek Community Foundation.

The head of the Art Council’s board says it decided to pull the plug because of “concerns about the organization’s viability."

Until now, Battle Creek has had a independent local arts organization since 1964.

LANSING -- The Michigan agency charged with investigating abuse claims against vulnerable adults was slammed in an auditor's report Wednesday for failing to investigate all allegations. The Michigan Department of Human Services is responsible for investigating alleged abuse of seniors and other vulnerable adults through its Adult Protective Services department.

Bell's in Dispute with MDOT Over New Traffic Signal Near Brewery

KALAMAZOO, MI - Bell's Brewery's Larry Bell says he is upset that the Michigan Department of Transportation has put a new traffic signal in front of the sign outside his oldest commercial property. Two days ago, Michigan Department of Transportation workers began installing a new traffic signal in front of Bell's General Store.
