Michigan public companies still mostly run by men

It's still a man's world in the boardrooms and corner offices of Michigan's top public companies, with the rate of change toward gender parity glacially slow. Of the 850 board seats, women hold just 98, and for women of color, the number is only 12, according to a study from Inforum, the state's premier business group for women executives and entrepreneurs, and from the Wayne State University School of Business Administration.

WMU officials looking at shooting at fraternity party near university

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Western Michigan University officials are awaiting the results of a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety investigation following a shooting outside a frat house on West Michigan Avenue. A Kalamazoo man was shot in the leg and a female victim suffered a back injury, possibly from being hit with flying glass during an altercation early Sunday morning, police have said.

Wayne State's tuition increase results in more state funding for other universities

Wayne State University's 8.9% tuition hike, which violated a tuition increase cap put in place by the Legislature, will benefit Michigan's other public universities as they now divide funding that would have gone to WSU. State Budget Director John Nixon formally notified WSU on Sept. 10 that it was forfeiting $534,700 in performance funding.
