KRESA names three finalists for superintendent

PORTAGE, MI -- The board of the Kalamazoo Regional Education Service Agency has named three finalists for its superintendency: Two people who currently head intermediate school districts and the head of Ypsilanti Public School District.

MATTAWAN, MI - Twenty-six people spoke in support of, and nobody spoke against, fired Mattawan High School boys varsity basketball coach Dan Hoff during Monday night's board of education meeting at the district's Center Building Conference Room. About 150 people attended the monthly school board meeting, which was the first since Hoff was dismissed as coach, and lasted about two hours.

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI -- The Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees will consider adopting a non-discrimination ordinance. Trustees on Monday asked Kenneth Sparks, township attorney, to draft an ordinance that likely would extend anti-discrimination housing and job protections to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.

State Senate report shows increase in state revenue

LANSING - Michigan's Senate Fiscal Agency is projecting continued moderate growth for Michigan's economy but hundreds of millions of dollars more in tax revenues than officials projected in January. If accurate, the projections released late Monday are relatively good news for Gov. Rick Snyder and state lawmakers as they seek to complete the 2013-14 budget by June 1.

Saginaw council member says he hopes manager gets offer in Kalamazoo - so he'll leave town

SAGINAW, MI - Following a decision by Saginaw City Council to change health benefits for 740 city retirees, one of the council members voting for the measure said it was mishandled by the city administration. Councilman Andrew Wendt, who has been advocating just such a change for months, said he holds City Manager Darnell Earley responsible for that poor handling.
