Kellogg Community College increases tuition by six percent

The Kellogg Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved a 6 percent tuition increase, marking the second consecutive year the college has charged students more to battle falling state aid and property tax revenue.

Bell's Brewery now entirely family owned

"The company is 100 percent owned by the Bell family now," Larry said. "It really clears the way for the company to continue to grow and get financing and for me to be able to make arrangements to pass the company on to the next generation.

His Western Michigan University basketball team pulled out a 72-71 overtime victory over visiting North Dakota State in a College Basketball Invitational first-round thriller at University Arena.

State House approves funding for emergency dredging

LANSING -- The state House of Representatives voted 107-3 Wednesday to provide $20.9 million for emergency dredging in 49 harbors and bays in the Great Lakes. The bill also appropriated $23 million for 76 projects paid for by the Natural Resources Trust Fund.

Calhoun county ranks low in health

A health study released today ranks Calhoun County near the bottom. Calhoun County placed 78th out of the 82 Michigan counties. Allegan County was ranked the healthiest in our area, at 11th. Most of the Southwest Michigan counties fell between 40th and 60th place. Kalamazoo came in 46th in the health study.
The health of Calhoun County could use a booster shot, if a new study's numbers are accurate. The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released a study today that ranked each county in the nation.
