THREE OAKS, MI -- Lillian Lewis, who is to be ordained as a priest Saturday by a dissident Catholic group, says harassing phone calls have forced relocation of the ceremony. The event originally was to be held at the First Congregational Church in Three Oaks, where Lewis resides.

Harper Creek Superintendent Taking Job in Muskegon

Harper Creek Community Schools Superintendent John Severson will leave a post he's held for 10 years after being chosen Thursday to become superintendent of the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. The Muskegon district said in a news release Thursday that its Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Severson to replace retiring Superintendent Dave Sipka.

PAW PAW, MI -- An attorney for Van Buren County Sheriff Dale Gribler said the sheriff violated no county policy when he transported the Lawrence High School baseball team to Georgia in April using a county-owned car. Michael Bingen, of Kalamazoo, said the county has provided the sheriff with a vehicle for his own personal use for over 30 years.

ACLU Seeks Injunction Recognizing Same-Sex Marriages in Michigan

The American Civil Liberties Union is asking a judge to order Michigan to recognize more than 300 same-sex marriages performed in March. A lawsuit was filed in April, but the case is moving slowly. The state still has until June 5 to respond.

WMU Wins Big Science Grant

Western Michigan University has won a large grant to help draw more students to science and technology. University officials say the $1.4 million comes from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. They say the five-year project will focus on classes in biology.
