Snyder wants increase in gas tax and vehicle registration fees to pay for road improvements

LANSING, MI -- Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder wants to increase road funding by $1.2 billion a year, and he wants motorists who use those roads to foot the bill. The governor, who on Thursday unveiled his fiscal year 2014 executive budget recommendation, is calling for a new road funding model that would essentially double taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel while significantly increasing registration fees for passenger vehicles and heavy trucks.
