Hearing on Proposed Portage Budget Set for Tuesday

PORTAGE, MI - The public will have a chance to comment on the proposed Portage 2014-15 budget at a 7:30 p.m. hearing Tuesday at Portage City Hall. The Portage City Council has been going over the proposed budget blueprint and will take comments along with approving a Truth in Taxation resolution that establishes a millage rate, which in this case will not exceed .0789 mills above the city's base millage rate.

Legislature Could Keep MEAP Test Alive in Michigan Schools

LANSING -- The venerable MEAP exam is set to retire, but the Michigan Legislature took steps Thursday to give it another two years. Identical language in both the House and Senate versions of the state's school aid budget would make schools ineligible for state funding if they do not give the MEAP exam for the next two years.

Oil Leak Found At Palisades Nuclear Power Plant

COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI - An oil leak was discovered at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant Thursday evening. The spilled oil does not have a path to reach Lake Michigan or any other surface water, according to an incident report. "The oil released to the ground was approximately 70 gallons, which is greater than the reporting requirements," the report read.

Kellogg to Stop Claiming that Kashi is "All Natural"
