Future generations of Mexican gray wolves will be able to thank Binder Park Zoo for their existence.

SOUTH HAVEN, MI -- Over 100 people turned out Tuesday night for a public meeting about the Palisades nuclear plant, some of them voicing concerns and asking questions regarding the condition of the plant's nuclear reactor, storage of nuclear waste and general plant safety.

A Battle Creek city commissioner who has alleged corruption and illegal activities in the police department is proposing a meeting next week. "I would like to put a lot of people at the table and hash this out," Commissioner Jeffrey Domenico said Monday. "Maybe there is no reason to escalate this further."

Kalamazoo County Administrator Peter Battani will introduce the topic on Tuesday, and will aim to have the board start discussions on retiree health care at its April 16 meeting. Battani said the board will discuss retiree health care first because the county has an unfunded liability of about $65 million.

Commissioners approved in a 6-0 vote the plan that would allow the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety to hire three non-union civilians for the jobs instead of renewing a contract with AMPCO System Parking. Hiring in-house instead of renewing the $316,000 contract would save the city about $200,000, KDPS Chief Jeff Hadley has said.
