Albion College seeks a new president

Albion College President Donna Randall

Albion College is looking for a new president. Donna Randall, who has the job now, says she’ll step down at the end of June but will stay on as the college’s chancellor for one year after that.

Randall has been Albion’s president for six years and was the first woman to hold the position.

Michigan GOP official in hot water over Facebook post

Michigan’s Republican national committeeman says he doesn’t plan to resign because of Facebook posts about gays and lesbians. The Gongwer News Service says 21 GOP precinct delegates and other party leaders are urging David Agema to go. Their call came after the former state lawmaker put a post on Facebook suggesting that gays committed half of all murders in New York City.

"Right to Work" takes effect in Michigan

Even supporters say it may be a while before the law's effects are fully felt. Among other things, existing union contracts that include mandatory dues remain in effect until they expire.
One of the most hard-fought changes in Michigan history -- right-to-work legislation -- takes effect today, but its effects are largely unknown and not expected to be immediate. In neighboring Indiana, the impact is only beginning to be felt one year after a similar law took effect, in March 2012.

Parchment school bus hits house, no injuries

PARCHMENT, MI -- Police are investigating after a school bus, carrying 15 high school students, struck a house in Parchment Wednesday afternoon. No one was injured in the accident, according to a news release from the Parchment school district.

Snyder signs emergency dredging bill

The state is expected to dredge 58 public harbors and bays in Michigan to offset low water levels on the Great Lakes.
LANSING -- Gov. Rick Snyder today signed a bill that will pour $21 million of state dollars into an emergency dredging program that will clear 58 public harbors and bays in the state. "This dredging is critically important in this state. We have the third highest number of registered boats in the nation," Snyder said.
