Report Shows Tourists spent $18.7-Billion in Michigan in 2013

Tourism spending continues to grow in Michigan. Visitors spent $18.7 billion dollars in the Great Lakes State in 2013, according to a yearly report by D.K. Shifflet & Associates. That includes a record $13.8 billion in leisure travel spending. In 2012, visitors spent $18 billion in Michigan. In 2011, they spent $17.7 billion.

Advocates Call For Funding Public Transit in Addition to Roads

LANSING, MI -- Public transit advocates are urging Michigan lawmakers to look beyond roads and bridges as they debate long-term plans to increase annual infrastructure funding. "With vehicle miles traveled down for the ninth straight year, public transit is increasing it's importance in the Michigan transportation system," Chris Kolb, a former state lawmaker who now heads the Michigan Environmental Council, said Thursday in testimony before the House Transportation Committee.

Benton Harbor Recall Election Delayed

It'll be later this year, if at all, before Benton Harbor voters cast ballots for or against the recall of Mayor James Hightower. On Thursday, Berrien County Trial Court Judge John Dewane granted county Clerk Sharon Tyler's request for a preliminary injunction delaying the recall election, originally set for Tuesday.
