Republican State Senator Proposes Minimum Wage Increase

LANSING - A Republican Senator introduced a bill to raise Michigan's minimum wage with hopes of preventing a larger wage hike in the form of a ballot proposal. State Sen. Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) on Thursday said he introduced a bill to increase the minimum wage from $7.40 an hour to $8.15 per hour.

General Motors First Quarter Earnings Lower Due to Recalls

General Motors Co. said Thursday it earned $125 million in the first quarter, down 85.5 percent from the same three-month period in 2013 hit hard by a $1.3 billion charge for recalls. It was GMs 17th consecutive profitable quarter, despite the dramatic falloff. GMs earnings per share solidly beat analyst estimates at 6 cents.
