“As an adult, that feeling that I had as a child has escaped me. That comfort and the security and safety of home," says Kalamazoo artist Bonnie Pfingst. "That I’ve just now recently purchased my own home here in Kalamazoo and I’m loving it. Every day I can’t wait to get home and build a fire. And sit on the couch with my son and just enjoy life, just be.”

Painted Chair Affair brings out the artist in crafters

Friday night about a hundred chairs will fill the Battle Creek Country Club. But not just any chairs; each one is a unique piece of art. Every year artists and first-timers alike paint old chairs and enter them in the Painted Chair Affair, where they’ll be auctioned off to benefit the Woman’s Co-op. The auction starts at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Allegan artist's masks show serenity and humor

Allegan ceramic artist Jen Lawson-Steeves is obsessed with noses. Lawson-Steeves’ masks will be on display at Fancy Pants Theater during the Kalamazoo Art Hop on Friday.

“Honestly I love looking at people’s faces, and noses are my inspiration. It’s so funny to say that, but I love noses. And that’s how I start every single mask is with a nose. And that really is what actually draws out what the mask becomes.”
