WMU will reimburse employees whose accounts were hacked

KALAMAZOO, MI - Western Michigan University will reimburse both employees whose accounts were breached in December, a university spokeswoman said Monday. Ray Cool, 65, an assistant professor, said a hacker had stolen his Dec. 17 paycheck by getting into his GoWMU account and changing his routing number to a bank in Utah.

Jazz pianist and composer Frank Carlberg, noted for his settings of modern poetry to music, his wife, singer Christine Correa, and Western Michigan University jazz professor Andrew Rathbun joined Cara Lieurance recently for a discussion of Mr. Carlberg's music, which was featured in a WMU concert in January.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Western Michigan University will be closed Tuesday due to the severe weather, Cheryl Roland, executive director of university relations said in a phone interview. The start of the semester will be delayed a second day, due to 17 inches of snowfall and wind chill temperatures that a local weather expert are calling the coldest in 20 years.

WMU professor, school board member dies suddenly

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Lonnie Duncan, associate professor of counseling education and counseling psychology at Western Michigan University, died suddenly Tuesday, WMU officials announced today. Duncan, 46, also had served on the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education since August, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Ervin Armstrong.
