WMU students dig into the past in Niles

Fort Saint Joseph was established in what is now Niles in the late 1600s. It various times it flew the flags of France, Spain, Britain, and the United States.
NILES, MI - Western Michigan University archaeological students are ready to show off their newest "digs" at Fort St. Joseph. The WMU Field School is presenting this year's findings at the 2013 Fort St. Joseph Archaeological Open House Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over 2100 seek WMU Med School slots

Western Michigan University officials say WMU and Kalamazoo College graduates will get "preferred" status for the 50 openings in the medical school's first class.
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Western Michigan University School of Medicine is still a year away from opening its doors, but as of July 30, more than 2,100 students have applied for the 50 slots in its inaugural class.

USTA Nationals begin Friday in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The USTA Boys 18-16 National Championships begin today at Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium and Western Michigan University's Sorensen Tennis Complex, and will run through Aug. 11. Whether you're a newcomer to the tournament or have been attending for the 70 years it's been played in Kalamazoo, here are some things to keep in mind.

WMU picks new education dean

Western Michigan University will soon have a new dean at its College of Education and Human Development. He's Ming Li, who's currently the interim head of the Center for International Studies at Ohio University. Li will replace interim Western education dean Walter Burt. Li starts his new position in Kalamazoo September 1st. Besides education, Li is also involved in research on sports management and the financial side of athletics.
