Democrats seek candidate for governor, could Schauer be answer?

Former Congressman Mark Schauer says he hasn’t decided if he will run for governor next year. The Battle Creek Democrat also served in the state House and Senate for a total of 12 years. He has become the subject of intense speculation since Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer announced that she will not run for governor in 2014.

Senators seek more money for harbor dredging

A group of Republican state Senators wants to increase the amount that Michigan plans to spend on harbor dredging this year. State Senator John Proos of Saint Joseph is part of the group that wants to spend another $10-million to $12-million in addition to the $22-million in Governor Snyder's proposed budget.

Saving undocumented migrants in the Arizona desert

As the renewed debate over immigration reform unfolds in Washington, thousands of undocumented immigrants still try to cross the border with Mexico. A humanitarian group in Arizona says many are at risk of dying from thirst, starvation, or attacks by criminals. Representatives of No Más Muertes/No More Deaths will talk about the issue in Kalamazoo Wednesday, February 13th.

Kalamazoo attorney reacts to news on medical marijuana

A Kalamazoo-based attorney who  has been advocate for decriminalizing marijuana says Michigan could vote in 2016 on a law for limited legalization of marijuana. John Targowski specializes in medical marijuana law. He also helped lead the effort to pass a charter amendment in Kalamazoo that makes possession of small amounts of marijuana the lowest priority of law enforcement.
