3rd Graders scoring low on reading could be held back

Lead in text:
If a state House bill passes, third graders who score low on the reading portion of the MEAP would have to repeat the third grade.
If the bill were in place this year, it would mean as many as 36,662 children would have to repeat the third-grade because they scored at the bottom two levels of the Michigan Educational Assessment Program exam in fall 2012. If it passes the Legislature, the mandate would take effect for the 2014-15 school year.
