Battle Creek Public Schools moved a step closer to its first surplus budget in seven years after its Board of Education unanimously approved $1.1 million in cuts Monday. Four teaching positions will be eliminated through attrition, but the cuts for the 2014-15 school year marked the first time in at least four years no teachers were laid off as the board worked to close budget gaps.
