A pest that has infected hundreds of mature trees throughout downtown Holland is becoming a real pain in the ash. The removal of an estimated 2,000 ash trees within the city of Holland, including 86 in the downtown corridor in the past few months, has been stepped up because of decay caused by an infestation of the emerald ash borer, an insect first found in Michigan more than a decade ago.
