Law enforcement officials say landline bill threatens public safety

LANSING - Top law enforcement officials warned that public safety would be threatened if Michigan lawmakers pass a bill to make it easier for phone companies to discontinue traditional landline service. The Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and Michigan Sheriffs' Association on Monday joined AARP in opposing Senate Bill 636, which passed the Senate last week and could go before the House as soon as Tuesday.
