Michigan Gay Marriage Case Being Heard By Federal Appeals Court

Lead in text:
The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals is hearing arguments Wednesday from court cases in Michigan and three other states that have banned same sex marriage. The six lawsuits involve either challenges to the bans or question the validity of same-sex marriages performed in other states.
In an unusual convergence of high-stakes litigation, a federal appeals court on Wednesday is taking up six different cases challenging aspects of same-sex marriage restrictions in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The cases, being heard by a three-judge panel in Cincinnati, are among the front edge of nearly 80 pending lawsuits seeking to overturn barriers to gay marriage nationwide.
