Storm Produces Rare "Inland Tidal Wave" on Gun Lake
Storm caused water to rise dramatically on one end of lake
A severe thunderstorm Wednesday produced a seiche on Gun Lake, between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. A seiche is essentially similar to a tsunami, but on an inland lake, and much less devastating. A seiche forms when a sustained severe wind from one direction pushes more water on a lake to the other side of the lake.
