WMU team gets $1.4-million grant to launch transportation research center

KALAMAZOO, MI -- A multidisciplinary team at Western Michigan University University has been awarded a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the university announced Thursday. WMU will be the lead institution for the Transportation Research Center for Livable Communities, which will focus on improving public transit, providing safer pedestrian and bicycle networks and making transportation more accessible for children, people with disabilities and lower-income residents.
