Sixth District GOP congressional primary: Upton vs. Hoogendyk Posted: 2010-07-27 15:16:48

Republican members of Congress in southwest Michigan seldom face primary challengers. But long-time Sixth District Representative Fred Upton does. Next week, voters in the district that includes Kalamazoo will decide whether Upton or challenger Jack Hoogendyk will advance to the general election this fall. As WMUK's Andy Robins reports, the primary campaign has revolved around the challenger's question: which candidate is the "true" conservative.

You can listen to this news report and the full length interviews with both candidates on WMUK's News website.

This Week on From the Top Posted: 2010-07-27 14:25:58

Tune in to WMUK each Thursday at 8 p.m. and Fridays at 3 p.m. for From the Top. This popular classical music program is hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O'Riley and reveals the heart and soul behind extraordinary young musicians through musical performances, interviews, sketches and games. This week, from Dinkelspiel Auditorium on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, a 13-year-old violinist performs a flashy Carmen Fantasy by Franz Waxman and takes a quiz given by a special guest - the great New York Times puzzle master Will Shortz, and a fantastic 16-year-old pianist plays Prokofiev. Also, we'll reconnect with a double bassist who was first on our show seven years ago, and hear the incredible story of how he met his future wife.

How to listen on-line Posted: 2009-10-06 12:07:35

The radio image beneath our banner is a web-based audio player that will allow you to listen to either our HD-1 or HD-2 service. Just click on the HD-1 or HD-2 buttons to listen to the respective stream. This will open a new collapsible window that will stay active until you 1) close the window or, 2) click the green "ON" button (which then turns dark and switches off). If you prefer using your own media player, you'll see links to connect to either stream in the player's window.

The "Weather Advisories," "School Closings" and "Special Coverage" lights will be bright when conditions warrant. Click on the text next to the light to open a new window with weather updates, school closing information, etc.

Below the radio is a second frame that identifies what's currently playing on HD-1 or HD-2. Beneath that information there are two other widgets. The one with the NPR logo lets your hear the latest NPR hourly newscast. The lower button will start an on-line only music stream that is described in the small window to the right of it. These special music streams change weekly and come to us from NPR. They offer First Listens to new albums, live concert material, and holiday music mixes.
